Gay (Gemmill) Coon
Of Penn Yan, passed away on May 2, 2017 at the Penn Yan Manor Nursing home in the company of her family.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday (May 11, 2017) at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 East Main St., Penn Yan. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made in Gay's memory to the Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home, 655 N. Liberty St., Penn Yan, NY 14527 or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at nationalmssociety.org
Gay was born on July 20, 1944 in Cattaraugus, N.Y. to Raymond and Mattie (Luce) Gemmill. She graduated as Salutatorian from Cattaraugus High School in 1962, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and also an exchange student to Norway. Gay graduated from Alfred State College, where she was a member of All State Choir. It was at Alfred where she met Paul Coon. The couple married on September 26, 1964, and celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in 2016. Gay worked as a legal secretary for several local attorneys, and was also a Real Estate Agent for Century 21 Four Seasons. Toward the end of her career she and partner, Carol Alexander, formed their own business, Docu-Prep. She enjoyed antiques and golfing with her girlfriends at Lakeside, where her unique sense of humor was put to good use.
Gay is survived by her husband, Paul; her daughters Andrea and Jennifer; and granddaughters Lauren and Erin. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy (Denny) Whitmore; sisters-in-law Joyce Gemmill, Jean Switzer, Joyce Sternes, Ethel Acquilano; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Gay was predeceased by her brothers Harry and Ronald (Joyce) Gemmill.
