Anna Laura Murray
Age 93, of Penn Yan, passed peacefully at Keuka Comfort Care Home, February 23, 2024. Born to Ralph and Anna (Dinehart) Corey, December 21, 1930, Ann grew up at Mays Millls, Keuka Lake Outlet with 4 siblings – Wilfred (Doris) Corey, Lyle (Mae) Corey, Velma (Robert) Christiansen and Donald (Donna) Corey. Donald survives his sister.
Ann attended a one-room schoolhouse until joining Penn Yan Academy's Class of 1948. Following graduation, marriage to Kenneth Hawley and family soon followed. Over the years Ann worked tirelessly inside and outside her home – Sutherland Builders, secretary, The Hilltop Inn/Herr Jensen's/Sarrasins, waitress, Hawley's Smoke Shop, owner/operator and The Nest Egg, retail. She volunteered with the Democratic Party, Peppermint Parlor of Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital and Keuka Comfort Home.
Ann and John Raymond 'Ray' Murray married in 1983. Their 32 happy years together were spent enjoying family and their many friends on/near Keuka Lake. Ray, the love of Ann's life, predeceased her in 2015.
Ann will be deeply missed by friends and family. Children – Brian (Leah) Hawley, Michael (Karen) Hawley, Robert (Brenda) Hawley, Susan (Cecil) Huber, Melinda (Kent) MacNeill, Jeffrey Hawley, Anne (Marty) Olmstead; Stepchildren – Kevin Murray, Lisa (Dan) Hughes, Jeffery (Beth) Murray, Julie (Peter) Beaghe and Amy (Brooks) Henderson; grandchildren – Matthew Hawley, Corey Hawley, Michael Hawley, Amber Hawley, Christopher Hawley, Jeffrey (Amy) Yastremski, Scott (Erin) Rogers, Kari Flaherty, Brooke (Charles) Eveland, Carrie Baughman; step-grandchildren – Kevin and Kyle Hughes, Corrine (Grant) Livermore; Erin Murray, Ella and Haley Beaghen, Jessie and Jacob Henderson; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces/nephews. Son Jeffrey Hawley, daughter-in-law Linda (Robert) Hawley, and son-in-law Kent (Melinda) MacNeill, predeceased her.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00pm Sunday, March 10 at the Elks Lodge, Penn Yan. Those wishing may consider a memorial donation in her memory to Ontario-Yates Hospice or Keuka Comfort Care Home.
