Bartholomew E. Winslow Jr.
Bartholomew E. “Bart” Winslow Jr., 81, of Penn Yan, passed away June 14, 2026. Bart was born on January 24, 1945, in Utica, New York, to Bartholomew E. Winslow Sr. and Anne O’Hara Winslow.
Bart grew up on Trenton Road in North Utica with his family. He developed a deep love of sports, especially baseball, and remained a lifelong fan of his beloved New York Yankees. He also enjoyed golf, particularly spending time with his Thursday golf crew.
Beyond sports, Bart will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his community. He served as a firefighter for more than 60 years, including the last 55 years with the Penn Yan Fire Department. Throughout his service, he held many positions and is especially remembered for his six years as Assistant Chief and two years as Chief of both the Ellsworth Hose Company and the Penn Yan Fire Department. Bart also served as a New York State Fire Instructor, Yates County Deputy Fire Coordinator, and County Fire Investigator.
Bart devoted many years to public service as well. He served eight years on the Penn Yan Village Board, including time as Deputy Mayor. He was also deeply involved in youth sports, coaching Little League, Babe Ruth, and American Legion baseball, as well as coaching and refereeing junior football. His love of baseball extended onto the field, where he spent nearly 30 years playing softball.
Following a successful career in the insurance industry, Bart retired from Stork Insurance. He was also a proud member of the Penn Yan Elks Lodge and the Penn Yan Moose Lodge.
Bart will be greatly missed by his family and many close friends.
He is survived by his loving children: Bart III (Stacy)Winslow of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania; Colleen (Chris) Tedeschi of Manlius, New York; and Brian (Carol) Winslow of Penn Yan, New York. He is also survived by his brothers, Michael (Arlene) Winslow of Deerfield, New York, and John (Judy)Winslow of Manlius, New York; family friend James (Patricia) Manning; and five cherished grandchildren: Delaney (Dan) Biester, Shelby Winslow, Sarah Tedeschi, Ben Tedeschi, and Allison Winslow. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Bart was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sharon; his sister, Kathleen Winslow; and his parents, Bartholomew “Gene” Winslow and Anne O’Hara Winslow.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 312 Liberty Street, Penn Yan, New York. A committal service and interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. A reception celebrating Bart’s life will be held afterward at the Penn Yan Elks Lodge.
