Bruce G. Rugg, age 59, of Penn Yan, passed away tragically on Friday, June 6, 2026, as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
Born in Dresden, NY, Bruce was the beloved son of Forrest and Gladys (Love) Rugg. He had 13 siblings. He is lovingly remembered by eight of his brothers and sisters: Carol (Grady) Benfield of Wisconsin, Sharon Hullings of Bath, David Webster of Florida, Deborah Wood of Penn Yan, Robin (Randy) Derr of South Carolina, Kim (Richard) Simpson of Penn Yan, Bonnie Rugg of Wisconsin, and Robert (Sheri) Rugg of Wisconsin. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Larry Newell of Penn Yan; and several nieces and nephews. Bruce’s family was the heart of his life, and he cherished the bonds they shared deeply.
A proud Marine, Bruce honorably served his country for five years, a testament to his courage and dedication. His passion extended beyond his service; he had a great love for antique guns and weaponry, which he collected with pride. Bruce also embraced his Viking heritage and held a special place in his heart for his “sissies,” a term that reflects his deep family affection.
Bruce’s love also extended to his furry companions — his rescue dog Riley and his cats Digger and Phalen were cherished members of his life.
He was predeceased by his sister, Judy Newell and infant sisters Diane, Elizabeth, and Mary, whose memories he carried with him always.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Wisconsin at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember Bruce’s life. Those wishing to pay tribute to Bruce’s memory may consider a donation to a local Humane Society, reflecting his compassionate spirit.
Bruce G. Rugg’s life was one of service, love, and connection. Though he is deeply missed, his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
