Edith "Edie" Doran Miller, of Penn Yan, NY, passed away on May 23, 2026. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, on January 17, 1954.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Edith Hall Doran, and her father, F David Doran. Edie’s survived by her sons Michael David (Julie) and Matthew Daniel, grandsons Ethan and Liam, siblings, Mary, Kathleen, Isabelle, David, and Maureen, and nephews, nieces, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Edie started her schooling at Raven Hill Academy, then finishing her studies at Keuka College, graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. She spent her career in nursing caring in a variety of settings, from her start in the Emergency Department, then on to Maternity Care and Recovery Room at FF Thompson, continuing at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Safety and Staff Development. Furthering her passion for nursing, she was a midwife to the local Mennonite Community, spent many years with Ontario Yates Hospice, and ended her career at Yates County Public Health. Being there for people in their time of need was a skill she did with great ability and honor.
In her personal life, Edie was most proud of her two sons. She loved being in nature with her son Michael and traveling the world with her “miracle baby” Matthew. Her capacity as a mother was only surpassed by her capacity as a grandmother. She spent the last two decades with her partner, Pedro, who was a constant at her side - from spending time in the garden, through the support she needed at the end of her journey. Her affection and love for family will be remembered by all.
Calling hours will be Wednesday May 27th from 5pm-7pm at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E Main St, Penn Yan. Funeral Mass at St. Michael’s Thursday May 28th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, Edie has requested donations be made to a hospice of choice.
