Ethel Marie Hoose
Age 62, of Penn Yan, passed away November 25, 2025.
Ethel was born in Penn Yan on January 23, 1963, the daughter of Durwood and Katherine (Swarthout) Hoose. She graduated from Penn Yan Academy and followed a career in healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She worked as a CNA at The Homestead at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, giving selflessly of herself and caring for others. She was also a volunteer alongside her mother, and brother Richard Hoose, at the Penn Yan Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
She was predeceased by both of her parents, as well as her brothers, Richard, Clark, Smitty, and Norman Hoose, sister Polly Rumsey, an infant brother, Charles Hoose, and nephew, Carl Hoose.
She is survived by her beloved daughter Elizabeth Ortiz (Tristan Stebbins) of Canandaigua; and her 5 year-old grandson whom she adored, Ashton Stebbins. She is also survived by two sisters, Susan Hoose of Branchport and Vicki Keen, formerly of Penn Yan, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date and she will be interred at Branchport Cemetery with her family.
