Harold J. Searles

Penn Yan-a beloved father, grandfather, and respected figure in the farming and trucking industry, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, at Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home after several years in the home. Born on September 29, 1937, in Montour Falls, NY, Harold lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a generosity of spirit that endeared him to all who knew him.

Harold’s career was defined by his unwavering commitment to the trucking business, where he built and operated Harold J. Searles & Son Trucking. Known for hauling cattle, farm equipment, grains, and a diverse array of goods across New York State and Pennsylvania, Harold was a pillar in the local transportation community. His work ethic and dependability set him apart within the industry.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Harold remember him as an easy-going man with a constant smile and a sharp sense of humor. He was known by everyone in his circles, a testament to the genuine kindness and approachable nature he exuded throughout his life.

Harold was predeceased by his beloved wife, Norma Conley Searles, his brothers Joe Searles and Wayne Searles, his sister Patricia Searles, and his parents Horace Searles and Hildred (Vanzile) Searles. Though these family members have passed, Harold’s memory lives on vividly through his surviving loved ones.

His legacy is further carried forward by his cherished grandchildren, Nicole Cauwels Arias and Nathan (Hattie Joe) Cauwels, and his great-grandchildren Makayla Arias, Gypsy Joe Cauwels, and Atlas Cauwels. Harold also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and a broad circle of family and friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.

Harold J. Searles’ life was one of hard work, laughter, and connection. His presence enriched the lives of many, and his peaceful passing marks the close of a remarkable chapter. His family and friends will remember him not only for his contributions to the trucking industry but for the warmth and laughter he brought to every room. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.

A celebration of life will be held this summer at the Nettle Valley Cemetery in Potter. Date will be given once set.  Arrangements with Weldon Funeral Home of Penn Yan.
