Joan M. Gallagher

 

Age 87, of Penn Yan, NY, passed away February 7, 2021 at Ontario Center in Canandaigua.

 

She was born in the Town of Benton, NY, the daughter of the late Leon and Mildred Gallagher.  She was also predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Agnes Gallagher and nephew, Douglas Gallagher.   Surviving her are her dear nieces and nephews, Mark (Annette) Gallagher of Michigan, Cheryl Gallagher of Buffalo, and MIchele (Michael) Degen of Buffalo; also her late nephew's wife, Linda Gallagher; 9 great-nieces and nephews; and 11 great-great nieces and nephews.

 

Joan received a BA from Russell Sage College and received a MA from Middlebury College and the University of Madrid, Spain. For several years she taught Spanish, Latin and French at Lake Grove School on Long Island and later at other schools in Central New York.  She loved to deer hunt, read and oil paint.  She travelled to Spain, Cuba and Italy.  Joan was well read and had a love for Spanish and Roman history.  She will be remembered for her love of animals and deeply missed by her family and friends.

 

The family will receive friends at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Penn Yan, NY on Friday (Feb. 12) from 12 PM-1 PM; followed by a funeral service at 1 PM; and burial at Lakeview Cemetery.
