Lisa Knapp, of Penn Yan, passed away on September 10, 2025, at the age of 64.
A lifelong resident of the community, Lisa graduated from Penn Yan Academy with the Class of 1979 and went on to earn her degree in cosmetology from the Continental School of Beauty. She dedicated 44 years to serving a loyal base of clients, most of which were spent working alongside the team at Tammy’s Hairstyles, where she developed deep friendships with her coworkers. While she retired in 2023, Lisa didn’t let grass grow under her feet. She continued to work on projects around her home and with Mitch, tending to the flowers and the yards, and learning to play multiple instruments.
Lisa will be remembered for her love for all of God’s creatures, especially her cats, most of whom were strays that she took in and nurtured. She lit up every room she entered with her joyful spirit, big smile and captivating personality. Many of the annual family Thanksgiving dinners she and Mitch hosted were sprinkled with extra friends whom she invited to the table to celebrate with her family so they would not be alone.
Lisa was predeceased by her father, Archie Bailey; her paternal grandparents, Frank and Margaret Bailey, and maternal grandparents, George and Viola Christensen.
Lisa leaves behind her cherished family, including her life partner, Mitch Lehman, her son, Matthew Knapp, and step-son Christopher (Stephanie) Lehman and their son, Henry, who she loved as her own. She is also survived by her mother, Pauline (Christensen) Carroll, her siblings Gary (Donna) Bailey, Roger (Linda) Bailey, Carla Bailey, Troy (Becki) Bailey, Jasmin Troutman, as well mother-in-law Bonnie Lehman and brothers and sisters in-law Scott (Laura) Lehman, Bobettte Lehman, Todd (Pamela) Lehman and Amy (Kevin) Greene. She also has many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 21 from 12-3 pm at Weldon Funeral Home in Penn Yan with a celebration of life immediately following at 3 pm. A reception will be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Yates County Humane Society.
