Mary Kay Fingar McAvoy

KEUKA PARK-It is with profound sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of Mary Kay Fingar McAvoy, 72, of Keuka Park, NY on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

Mary Kay will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by her husband of 44 years, Kevin McAvoy; her sister, Cindy Smart; her nieces, Elizabeth (Brian) Smith, Rebecca Smart, Katie and Jenna Fingar; her great niece and nephew Madaline and James Smith; and her two kitties, whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Fingar; her father, Cole Fingar; brothers, Tim and Steve; her sister, Amy; and her brother-in-law, Jeffery Smart.

Mary Kay was born on September 3, 1949, in Penn Yan, where she attended grade school. She went on to pursue her passion for history and education, receiving a Bachelor’s degree from Brockport College. Mary Kay spent 33 years as a beloved educator at Gates Chili High School. Upon retirement, Mary Kay and Kevin moved back to Penn Yan to live the remainder of their days in her childhood home.

Mary Kay was so many things to those she loved. She was kind, and funny. Passionate and giving. Intelligent and thoughtful. To her husband, she was a best friend, and partner. A soulmate. To her sister, she was so much more than a friend, she was the person whom a lifetime of memories were shared. To her nieces, she was and will forever be “Kay Kay”, the greatest of the great. The “fun” aunt, that they know loved them with everything she possessed. Whether it be a memory of the yearly fishing trips to Canada, or an episode of one of her favorite television shows, her love will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her most.

There are no visiting hours.  A funeral service will be held on Monday November 1, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 East Main Street, Penn Yan, NY.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to Wendy Hill MS, NP, Dr. Prokopius, and the nursing staff at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital… Their kindness and acts, well beyond the normal call of duty, will never be forgotten.
