Paul Edwin Roe
86, of Bellona, New York, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, at Keuka Comfort Care, surrounded by family, following injuries sustained in a fall in January.
Born on April 13, 1939, in Bellona, Paul was a lifelong resident of the community he loved. He was known for his steady character, strong work ethic, and deep devotion to family, faith, and community. Raised with an appreciation for rural life, hard work, and neighborly connection, Paul carried those values throughout his life. He was quietly dependable, generous with his time, and always willing to lend a hand wherever it was needed.
Paul dedicated much of his life to his work at Roe Acres and was the last remaining farmer of the original seven farm families in Bellona. He took great pride in providing for those he loved. He was a man whose wisdom was often shared not through many words, but through his example. His presence brought steadiness, warmth, and strength to those around him.
He also gave generously of his time in service to his community. Paul served for more than 20 years on the Board of Directors of ProFac Cooperative, was a member of the Town of Benton Planning Board, and was an active member of Bellona Presbyterian Church. He also faithfully served as Treasurer of the Bellona Fire Department for over 20 years.
Paul enjoyed life in many ways. He was an avid golfer in both New York and Florida and was a member of Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan and attended games whenever he could. He also loved to travel and enjoyed visits to Switzerland, Austria, England, Scotland, Wales, Italy, Ireland, and France. One of the highlights of his later years was fulfilling a bucket-list dream in August 2025: reaching the top of the Eiffel Tower.
Paul was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia Hanson Roe (1962), his sister Gayle Roe Searles (1992), his daughter, Amy Simmons Janney, in 2011 and his grandson Christopher James Simmons in 2023.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jorgensen Roe; his children, Paul Simmons (Lynne), Farrell Simmons (Shelly), J.D. Simmons (Sue), Tammy Zona, Steven
Roe (Lillian), and Joy Williams (Gareth); his son-in-law, Don Janney; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his dear companion, Linda.
He is also survived by his siblings Phyllis Johnson (Robert), Linda Johnson (Bernie) and Bruce (Lynne) and many nieces and nephews.
Paul leaves behind a legacy of humility, resilience, loyalty, and quiet kindness. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives were shaped by his guidance, strength, and unwavering love.
